Life-changing Tips for You

You're not alone when you begin to feel overwhelmed, triggered or annoyed at any given point in the day. There are so many "things" that demand your time and undivided attention. Stress is real and if it isn't managed, it can cause long lasting negative effects on your body and mind. There is so much going on around us, that makes it difficult to pinpoint the root cause of our stress.
I've put together a few tips for you (these are my go-to for when I start feeling overwhelmed) to help you manage your stress and avoid burnout.
1. Find the cause.
It is important to identify what exactly is causing you to feel overwhelmed. Is it a new project? A big decision you need to make? Something you've been putting off? Jot down all the things, no matter how small, that could be contributing to your state of mind.
2. Get started.
After you've identified what exactly is contributing to your stress, begin to work out small tasks that you can complete to break down your list. Starting small will make the larger items feel more manageable.
3. Practice self-care.
Your self-care rituals and routines will help to provide a strong defense against stress and burnout. Incorporate breaks into your day, where you take a walk outside and practice deep-breathing (to reduce stress levels and increase your focus). Don't skimp on your alone time - this is a crucial element to your overall wellbeing. During this time, you are able to reflect, celebrate wins/appreciate shortfalls and take inventory of your day; this is where you will be able to identify instances that would contribute to you feeling stressed. Design low maintenance self-care rituals that you love and can be done in the comfort of your home - that way, you won't add to your overwhelm by trying to figure out where to go to or what to do.
4. Practice gratitude.
Keeping a gratitude journal can help you to cultivate a positive mindset. When you begin to focus on the things that you are grateful for, you will become more calm, focused and better able to cope against different stressors that come your way. Practicing gratitude has been proven to improve sleep, depression and also your immunity levels.
5. Set boundaries.
There are times when we may overextend ourselves or not be clear on how we want to be treated. This can easily cause feelings of overwhelm and anxiety. Make the decision to say no to tasks you won't have time for and don't hesitate to let others know, what is and what is not acceptable.
6. Seek support.
Strive to be a part of a community that provides you with support and guidance. Don't hesitate to reach out to your family/friends or a social media group/page, to help you stay on track and hold you accountable. Having a non-judgmental friend in your corner is definitely a plus.
It's completely normal to feel overwhelmed sometimes, because we manage many responsibilities and engage in all types of stressful situations each day. But overwhelm shouldn't be our default mode of operation. It's important for us to be able to recognize when to pause and slow down. And that's the very reason for ROSES & CHARCOAL. We meet you were you are, in order to help you slow down from this bustle of life, through meaningful self-care rituals.
