Slow Living Lessons from the Motherland
Posted by Melissa Ite on 1st Oct 2024
As the curtains of September close, I find myself reflecting on my 5-week journey to Nigeria. I'm surprised by the profound impact it had on my life.
Immersing myself in the culture of Akwa Ibom, I discovered the true beauty of slow living. The intentional pace of life there forced me to slow down, and in doing so, I uncovered treasures I'd been missing in my fast paced world.
Journaling became a sacred ritual, allowing me to process my thoughts with extreme clarity and connect with my inner self. The stillness of the mornings, surrounded by lush greenery, inspired me to write from a place of depth and honesty.
Meaningful conversations with my teen daughter became a highlight of my day. Without the distractions of our busy lives, we connected on a deeper level, sharing laughter, stories and life lessons.
Slow living in Nigeria reminded me that life is not about rushing to the finish line, but about savoring each moment. It's about cultivating intention, connection, and mindfulness. I carry the lessons of slow living with me, grateful for the experience and eager to incorporate its wisdom into my daily routine.
In a world that often values speed over substance, my time in Nigeria reminded me that living slowly is not only necessary but transformative.
